Remembering Space Shuttle Challenger 20 Years Later
This year will not only mark our 20 years out of high school but also the Challenger disaster. I remember watching this and perhaps you do as well.
“Twenty years ago, space shuttle Challenger blew apart into jets of fire and plumes of smoke, a terrifying sight witnessed by the families of the seven astronauts and by those who came to watch the historic launch of the first teacher in space...” Read the rest of the Challenger article on Yahoo!
I can’t remember her name right now--but the Chemistry teacher at Service had competed to be the teacher in space on that flight--Christa McAuliffe won that spot.
Posted by Leann on 01/28 at 01:53 PMThe teacher from Service was Mrs. Jan Heinrich. She was very involved with the NASA Programs, from teacher in space to Student Space Shuttle Involvement Programs. From our class, Glenn Beagle and I won a science project contest in 1985 and went to NASA with her. She was also there at the launch site and watched the explosion.
I remember being in Foods class with Mrs. Lowery, when they announced the explosion on the intercom.
